“DUBS – How the oil came north”

John Milne Book Launch

With all the brouhaha surrounding the announcement of BP’s discovery of the giant “Tiber” field in the Gulf of Mexico fresh in our minds, it is interesting to look back forty years to the time when similar discoveries were being made in our own backyard but with significantly less media coverage.

In Plashmill Press’s latest publication “DUBS – How the Oil came North,” by new author John C Milne, we read of a different perception of events relating to the discovery and exploitation of the Montrose, Forties and Brent fields.

The author, John C Milne, is well known in the North Sea Oil Industry. Starting as a casual labourer with Asco he rose through the ranks to become Purchasing Manager at Sedco Forex before setting up his own Procurement Brokerage company PEI.

This book is a personal memoir of his early work experience. In a collection of amusing anecdotes he covers the years 1969 – 1973 which, as he rightly observes, have been sadly neglected in the recorded history of the North Sea. He also focuses on the shorebased activities and highlights the efforts of some unsung heroes while taking gentle digs at some of our unresponsive authorities.

This will prove to be a rewarding read for those interested in North Sea nostalgia but amid the general whimsy there are a few serious messages for the decision makers on our future involvement in the international energy business.

The book, ISBN 978-0-9554535-8-8 is available through all good book shops at £9.99 or direct from the publisher’s website at www.plashmillpress.com. For discounts on larger quantities please contact the Author direct.
